Tenant Takeover

Chelsea & Keiren Murphy, CASH.

Tenant Takeover

We designed our co-working space at Newstead Studios to inspire creativity through beautiful design and abundant natural light. Simple. What makes it truly special is the businesses who call it home. We sat down with our tenants Chelsea and Keiren Murphy, owners of CASH. and PlayBook, to find out what makes these most atypical financial advisers tick, and how they get people to love their money.

Tell us a bit about your business and how you got started
We had been in financial planning for several years and knew that cash flow management was everyone’s greatest opportunity to get ahead financially so we decided to specialise in money management. It was the work that we enjoyed doing and we really wanted to create a business that was presenting finance as positive, fresh and fun.

What does a typical day look like for CASH.?
A typical day involves checking-in with clients to see that they are on track and help with any deviations to their plans e.g. a new job or business opportunity comes up so we chat about scenarios and how that could influence their financial goals. A lot of what we do is help clients to assess options and support their decision-making process. We’re also developing an online program so we’re in the editing phase of that, we’ve got a lot to share and we just want to make sure we’re concise because it’s best when financial solutions are quick and easy to implement.

Where do you draw creative inspiration from?
The design industry. We like the problem solving and communication that good designers achieve so that is what inspires us. We’re also drawn to minimalism and sustainability and that really influences how we approach money conversations with clients as well.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned since starting your business?
More money isn’t the answer. People often think when they have more money then they will have less problems but from what we have seen that isn’t the case. The solution is living to your values and you can do that earning $45,000 or $450,000 per year.

What made you chose Newstead Studios and what do you get most out of working here?
We chose Newstead Studios because it was filled with natural light and welcoming spaces but even more importantly it was about working with great people. We met Cass and felt like old friends, so it seemed like a natural fit. This is our first co-working experience and we’re really enjoying the community that is being created. The space is inspiring and we’re surrounded by people who love the work that they do.

What’s your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal)?
It might seem crazy to say this “pre-launch” but we really think our online program has the power to transform a generation and their feelings towards money.
